Collaborate with us

Whether you’re an indie developer, an established games company, an academic, or interested in our work for other reasons, we want to work with you! Here you can find out more information about us and how we can help you make the games you want to make. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Talks and Workshops

We have run workshops for video game writers and producers, and regularly give talks to both specialist and general audiences. Topics include (but are not limited to) gender representation, optionality and agency, ethics in games, and writing more realistic dialogue.

Contact Steph or Seán to organise a talk for your company, university, or event. If you’d like to attend more of our events, sign up for our mailing list.

Research Collaborations

If you or your company are looking for partners in new research on video games, we’d be delighted to chat with you. You can read about our recent study on women’s attitudes to gaming for an example of work undertaken with a games company. You can also explore our tools.

Consulting

If you are looking for input or advice concerning your next project, we’re only an email away.

About us

Steph Rennick is a games researcher, philosopher, and lecturer in interactive media at the University of Stirling. Seán Roberts is a quantitative linguist, games researcher, and senior lecturer at Cardiff University.

Together, we co-created the Video Game Dialogue Corpus, the first large-scale, openly accessible, consistently coded corpus of video game dialogue, which we used to conduct the largest ever study of gender bias in character dialogue in games. We have developed new methods and tools for studying games, and our research has appeared in mainstream and gaming media internationally.

Our work aims to empower gamemakers to make informed choices about representation, agency, and dialogue in their game design.
